Namibia's 2018 Cabinet is a powerful and influential group of individuals who are responsible for setting the country's agenda and driving forward its development. Led by Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, the Cabinet includes experienced ministers from across the political spectrum and is tasked with implementing the government’s policies on a wide range of issues. From health and education to agriculture and foreign policy, the Cabinet plays a crucial role in ensuring that Namibia remains a prosperous and stable nation.
Since independence in 1990, Namibia has made great strides in economic and social progress, and the 2018 Cabinet is committed to continuing this trend. With a focus on job creation, infrastructure development, and poverty reduction, the Cabinet is determined to ensure that all Namibians have access to the same opportunities regardless of their background or location. The government has also made a commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering women, with half of the Cabinet positions being held by female ministers.
The 2018 Cabinet is comprised of a mix of professionals from different backgrounds, ranging from economists and lawyers to medical professionals and academics. Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila is a respected leader who has served as Minister of Finance for more than a decade and has been in office since 2015. She is joined by Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who is also the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation. Other key members of the Cabinet include the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, John Mutorwa; the Minister of Education, Arts and Culture, Katrina Hanse-Himarwa; the Minister of Health and Social Services, Bernard Haufiku; and the Minister of Trade and Industry, Calle Schlettwein.
The Cabinet is responsible for the implementation of a range of policies and initiatives, including the National Development Plan 4 (NDP4), which sets out the government’s vision for the next five years. NDP4 focuses on job creation, improving access to education, and reducing poverty. The Cabinet is also responsible for the implementation of the Namibia Vision 2030, which aims to create a more equitable and just society by focusing on economic growth, poverty reduction, and environmental protection.
In addition, the Cabinet is responsible for managing the country’s finances and ensuring that the budget is allocated in the most effective way. This includes the establishment of programs to reduce public debt, promote investment in the private sector, and increase access to finance for small and medium enterprises. The Cabinet is also responsible for overseeing the administration of the country’s natural resources and ensuring that they are managed in a sustainable way.
The 2018 Cabinet has made great progress in addressing Namibia's challenges and continues to strive for economic and social progress. With an experienced and professional team of ministers, the Cabinet is well placed to continue to make Namibia a prosperous and equitable nation.
